Staying active is one of the most powerful ways to support health, happiness, and overall well-being. At Elim Park, staying active goes far beyond exercise. It’s about movement, connection, purpose, and joy. Like many of our residents, Barbara has embraced new passions, built meaningful friendships, and found a community where she truly feels at home!
An Active Body and an Engaged Mind
Recently, Barbara watched a news report discussing ways to slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. The advice was simple but powerful: stay physically active and socially involved. At Elim Park, Barbara does both, every single day. She begins many mornings with a one-mile walk around our campus, enjoying the fresh air and friendly faces along the way. In the evenings, she will often join a friend for a swim in our heated pool.
Barbara also takes advantage of Elim Park’s fitness center, using the equipment recommended by her therapist to stay strong and healthy. “The equipment is outstanding,” she says, “and it helps me keep moving safely.”
Creativity, Community, and Purpose
Staying active for Barbara isn’t just limited to fitness. She fills her days with creativity and connection, teaching a creative writing class, participating in the theater group, creating art, and serving as a volunteer chaplain.
“I walk out my apartment door and there are people walking down the hall,” Barbara shares. “Everyone here is very friendly. It’s just an amazing environment for me.” At Elim Park, residents are encouraged to stay engaged in ways that matter to them. Whether that means pursuing lifelong interests or discovering new ones, opportunities for social, creative, and intellectual activity are everywhere.
A Lifestyle That Supports Well-Being
Barbara believes that staying active – physically, socially, and creatively – plays a vital role in her health and happiness. Most of all, she feels grateful to be part of a community that makes it easy to live life fully.
“I just feel so happy and so blessed to be here,” she says.
