Finding Joy in the Gardens: Barbara’s Story at Elim Park

Finding Beauty in Every Step

For Barbara, life at Elim Park is made up of simple, meaningful moments, many of them starting with a walk around campus. The landscaping is one of the things that makes Elim Park feel so special. It changes with the seasons and always gives you something new to enjoy. Our landscaping team takes great care of everything, and it shows.

One of Barbara’s favorite places to stop is the Victory Garden. It’s a shared space where residents grow flowers, vegetables, and whatever they enjoy, and it brings a lot of color and life to the community.

“The variety of plants and the colors… every corner that I turn, it’s an exciting time,” Barbara says. “It just fills my soul with color and beauty.”

A Gardener at Heart

Barbara doesn’t just enjoy the gardens, she’s part of them. She keeps a small garden right off her deck and recently added a butterfly bush.

“I saw two monarch butterflies there yesterday,” she says. “I thought, oh, great. Now I will see the butterflies. I need butterflies in my life.”

The Victory Garden: Growing More Than Vegetables

The Victory Garden is one of the features many of our residents really enjoy. It’s a shared gardening space where residents can sign up for one or two plots (about 7 by 5 feet each) and grow whatever they like.

It’s not just about what you grow, it’s also about the experience. People share tips, check in on each other’s plants, and connect over a shared interest.

Barbara’s garden is doing really well. She has cherry tomatoes that she picks almost every day, along with larger beefsteak tomatoes growing in abundance.

“I stop there almost daily… I pick my little ripened cherry tomatoes. That’s my dessert from my dinner,” she says.

“It’s just another enrichment in my life… how lucky am I?”

Spring Is in the Air

Spring is a great time to be at Elim Park. The gardens are starting to bloom, everything feels fresh again, and it’s an ideal time to get outside and enjoy it.
