A Legacy of Philanthropy
The term “philanthropy” was coined by the Greek playwright Aeschylus in the fifth century BC. It means “love of humanity.” Today, philanthropy encompasses generosity in all its forms and is often defined as the act of contributing one’s time, talent, and treasure to improve the quality of life for others.
That is the essence of the Elim Park Foundation.
Since its founding, Elim Park Baptist Home has benefited from the generosity of others who believe in the power of our mission. Elim Park’s founder, Mary Melby, was a great missionary and philanthropist. She unselfishly gave of her time, talent, and treasure to help start Elim Park Baptist Home in 1906 on an 80-acre farm in a 12-room house dedicated as a rest home for all ages. Today, her legacy lives on in so many ways.
What began over a century ago as a dream of visionaries from the First Swedish Baptist Church has now become a thriving Life Plan Community. Elim Park Baptist Home holds a prestigious accreditation from CARF International (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities), making it a recognized, high-quality Life Plan Community (CCRC). The Elim Park Rehabilitation and Health Care Center is also highly rated by U.S. News & World Report for rehabilitation and holds a 5-Star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
The generosity of many donors over the years made this success possible by investing in a margin of excellence. Established in 2009 as a not-for-profit organization, the Elim Park Foundation was organized to support the mission and vision of Elim Park Baptist Home.
It does this through soliciting and receiving charitable gifts, grants, and other contributions for the benefit and expansion of Elim Park. These fundraising efforts play a crucial role in supporting this margin of excellence by providing the quality improvements, programs, and services for both residents and staff that go well beyond just essentials.
By bringing together many dreams and possibilities into a vision, the Elim Park Foundation exists to help make the quality of life at Elim Park the best it can be.
